The Women’s Services Surgical Technologist functions as part of a multi-disciplinary team to provide family-centered patient care across Women’s services units including labor and delivery, family birth centers, and newborn nurseries. This individual assists at the surgical field passing instruments and supplies to other members of the surgical team. Participates in preparing and equipping the surgical suites, and maintains sterile technique while providing supplies and instruments for various procedures. Provides basic patient care and unit support under the direct supervision of an RN. This role performs a broad range of tasks essential to safe and efficient patient care, but not requiring RN level licensure or skills.
Experience:
1 year Surgical Technologist experience preferred. Women’s Services experience preferred.
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Graduation from an accredited Surgical Technologist program or completion of a military training program for surgical technologists.
As of January 1, 2017, in lieu of the formal Surgical Technologist training program requirement, may substitute professional experience if candidate has worked 2 out of last 3 years as Surgical Technologist.
Skills:
Basic level patient care skills per requirements of the position.
Basic medical terminology.
Keyboard skills and ability to navigate electronic systems applicable to job functions.
Ability to understand and apply principles of sterile technique and surgical procedures within the scope of the position
Able to work in a fast paced environment and prioritize multiple assignments.
Flexibility and willingness to adapt to a changing environment and circumstances.

Licensure/Certification:
American Heart Association approved BLS certification required.
For new hires after July 1, 2016 not meeting the previous experience provision noted in the Education section: Current certification as Surgical Technologist or certification as Surgical Technologist within 12 months of graduation from Surg Tech program.
State of Washington:
Registered Surgical Technologist (RST) with State of WA required.
