Overview

Coordinates the day-to-day shift operations of the staff at a designated site and/or department while also performing the duties of a staff member.  Additional duties include coordinating workflow, problem solving and creating staff schedules.

 

The Imaging Support Specialist performs a variety of clerical, computer information systems and support functions, and processes the associated data.  Responsibilities include work as assigned in several of the following areas:  Outpatient admit, order entry, exam scheduling, importing and exporting images into PACS, document scanning, film file room functions, phone/fax results and providing customer service, and general clerical duties.  May also include patient transportation, technical assistance and other patient related duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

COORDINATION: Oversees the daily workload of the staff, including assignments, workflow, problem solving, etc.

  • Creates the staff schedule, including coverage for vacations and sick days.
  • Within scope of the position, responsible for employee performance on a given shift. Brings larger employee performance issues to attention of Supervisor or Manager as appropriate.
  • Facilitates communication amongst staff, providers and management. Collaborates with other areas, site coordinators, departments and customers in problem solving and project management. 
  • Coordinates orientation of new staff.
  • Coordinates with contract services.
  • Coordinates the medical record process.
  • Oversees the on-site referral process.
  • May serve as the payroll timekeeper.
  • Oversees purchasing and supply maintenance in specified area.

 

DOCUMENTATION: Accurate and timely service to customers is provided by complete gathering and documentation of all pertinent information by following documented procedures.

  • Gathers and properly documents complete medical and informational data.
  • Reports, files, logs and scheduling information accurately completed.
  • Follows confidentiality standard for patient information and results.

 

PERSONAL AND PATIENT CARE AND SAFETY: Quality patient care appropriate to patient age (neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric) provided by performance of responsibilities in accordance with written standards and good judgment.

  • Consistently practices universal precautions.
  • Utilizes appropriate equipment and body mechanics to avoid injury to self and others.
  • Maintains working environment in a clean, orderly and safe manner.

JOB KNOWLEDGE/JOB SKILLS: Technical, physician and management support is provided skillfully to maintain efficient and reliable workflow.

  • Maintains knowledge of department procedures in order to provide assistance throughout the patient care process.
  • Cross trains and takes initiative to maintain and improve job skills.
  • Performs all assigned duties accurately and effectively.
  • Accepts responsibility to ensure efficient workflow.

Qualifications

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent. 

 

Experience:

One year of experience in radiology and/or related medical field preferred. 

 

Knowledge/Skills:

Communication, customer service and reception skills. Keyboard skills and ability to navigate electronic systems applicable to job functions.  Filing skills.  Medical terminology preferred. CPR required for those assigned patient care duties.

Pay Range

USD $21.65 - USD $30.96 /Hr.
