Responsibilities


What you’ll do

  • Perform comprehensive, diagnostic-quality echocardiograms, including transthoracic, transesophageal (TEE), stress, bubble, and contrast studies.
  • Support complex procedures such as ECMO, Impella, pericardiocentesis, and intra-operative pediatric structural cardiac imaging.
  • Demonstrate expertise in identifying congenital heart disease and complex anomalies through high-level cognitive sonographic skills.
  • Provide exceptional care in both inpatient and outpatient settings, adapting studies to meet the unique needs of each patient.
  • Collaborate directly with pediatric cardiologists, surgeons, and specialized care teams to guide diagnosis, treatment planning, and surgical outcomes.

What you bring

  • Proficiency in pediatric and adult echocardiography with a strong focus on congenital heart disease
  • Skilled in intra-operative pediatric structural imaging
  • Ability to adapt procedures in real time to capture the most diagnostic information possible
  • Deep understanding of neonatal and pediatric specialized care

Qualifications

Education: 

  • Completion of accredited cardiac sonography or echocardiography certificate program that meets eligibility requirements for registry/certification required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Ultrasound, Radiology, Biological Sciences, or relevant health sciences field preferred.

Work Experience:

  • Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience performing echocardiography imaging required.
  • Pediatric echocardiography experience required.
  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience performing echocardiography imaging preferred

Skills: 

  • Ability to conduct transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiograms to evaluate heart function and structure in both outpatient and inpatient settings.
  • Strong understanding of ultrasound technology and cardiac anatomy is essential.
  • Ability to maintain operation and maintenance of ultrasound equipment to obtain high quality images of the heart.
  • Ability to Assess images for clarity and relevance, selecting the most appropriate ones for physician review.
  • Ability to perform examinations, recognizing the significance of all structures that are visualized, differentiating artifacts from appropriate images, while recognizing the limitations of equipment and utilizing knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
  • Ability to document and prepare preliminary reports highlighting key observations for cardiologists.
  • Ability to explain procedures clearly and interact effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team. Thoroughly explaining procedures, answering questions and calming concerns.
  • Ability to maintain composure under stress, using tact and good judgement.
  • Demonstrate flexibility performing tests/scans in a variety of clinical environments.
  • May assist in clinical research and training of new staff or students.
  • Technical proficiency and ability to navigate electronic health systems applicable to job functions.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a care team member. Demonstrating professionalism and developing effective relationships.
  • Demonstrates analytical decision-making skills; ability to quickly assess and resolve technical and patient care problems.
  • Ability to switch from adult to pediatric patients with ease.
  • Able to perform intra-operative pediatric structural cardiac exams to aid providers in diagnosis, procedures and treatment.
  • Knowledgeable in neonatal and pediatric specialized care for patients ranging from premature birth through adolescence.

Licensure

  • The current state license in Sonography is required for all employees who perform this job in the state(s) of practice. In the state of Oregon, the Oregon Board of Medical Imaging (OBMI) license, or temporary license to practice is mandatory. 
  • Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) or Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) credentials are required at the time of hire or within 6 months of hire date
  • Pediatric credentials (PE) preferred (dependent upon site) for testing patients <18 years of age.
  • Current CPR/BLS certification required.

Pay Range

USD $52.63 - USD $75.26 /Hr.
