The Phlebotomist Technician Clinics performs pre-analytical processes associated with processing and collection of laboratory specimens. Applies knowledge of clinic and laboratory operations to assist patients in utilizing laboratory services. Complies with all clinics, laboratory, and safety policies. Uses personal protective equipment (PPE) as required by laboratory policy and regulating agencies.
Education:
High school diploma or GED required. For employees performing waived testing, a physical copy of diploma or GED must be provided for the departmental file. Diploma or GED will not be verified for employees hired on or before May 21, 2012.
Completion of a formal phlebotomy training program, including an externship or practicum, required.
Experience:
One year of phlebotomy experience.
Knowledge and Skills:
Basic reading and writing skills required.
Keyboard skills and ability to navigate electronic systems applicable to job functions required.
Interpersonal and communication skills required.
Ability to operate standard office equipment (i.e., telephone, photocopier, computer, and printer) required.
Knowledge of basic medical terminology required.
Experience with drug screen specimen collection and basic specimen selection,
handling, and storage activities required.
Customer service experience preferred.
Current American Heart Association approved CPR certification required.
Phlebotomist or Phlebotomy Technician certification preferred.
Washington Only-
Medical Assistant – Phlebotomist or Medical Assistant – Certified license from the Washington State Department of Health required for employees assigned or floating to Washington worksites.
