Innovative research paves the way for improved patient outcomes. You can be a part of the research that’s driving new treatments and procedures at Legacy. In your role, you will provide general and technical assistance, clerical support, laboratory maintenance and assist with collection of scientific data. If you’re ready to grow your skills and share in the Legacy mission of making life better for others, we invite you to consider this opportunity.
Drs. Barbara Sorg and Soren Impey are seeking a 0.8FTE Research Assistant technician with a background in neuroscience or related discipline (Biology, Biochemistry, Psychology) to contribute to basic science studies on circadian rhythms in memory. Strong candidates will have proficiency with basic laboratory techniques and some experience with rodent behavioral studies or molecular biology methods.
Circadian rhythms powerfully regulate our daily physiological and mental functions, but these rhythms can be disrupted in shift work, during jet lag, during ageing, and in individuals with a wide variety of neurological disorders. Individuals with these conditions experience cognitive impairment. Our studies focus on neural mechanisms in the prefrontal cortex that we believe contribute to this impairment during disruption of daily rhythms.
The RA will be working on projects that span 3 years, including: 1) use of molecular techniques to determine circadian rhythms in memory retrieval and whether these rhythms are altered by specific brain structures called perineuronal nets; 2) using EEG to assess whether there is synchrony, or coupling, across the brain during memory retrieval, and whether this varies during the day/night cycle.
This is an entry-level research assistant position. It provides, under close supervision of a Principal Investigator, general and technical assistance in support of a specific research program, including (but not limited to): clerical tasks; laboratory maintenance; ordering and inventorying laboratory supplies; and production and collection of scientific data. Research assistants at this level, unlike higher-level research assistants, would not be expected to perform their own research.
QUALIFICATIONS:
